The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2024, offering cutting-edge technology and design enhancements that continue to push the boundaries of what foldable devices can do.

Design and Build

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 features several design improvements over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It is both thinner and lighter, with a more compact and boxy appearance. The phone measures 132.6 x 153.5 x 5.6 mm when unfolded and 68.1 x 153.5 x 12.1 mm when folded, making it easier to handle in both modes. It also weighs just 239 grams, making it the lightest Fold device Samsung has produced.

One of the key design upgrades is the more durable hinge mechanism, which now includes a dual-rail system. This makes the phone more resistant to shocks and pressure, enhancing its overall durability. The device is also the first in the Z Fold series to feature IP48 water and dust resistance, providing added protection against the elements.

Display

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 boasts a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a resolution of 2160 x 1856 pixels and a 20.9:18 aspect ratio. This main display supports a dynamic refresh rate of 1-120Hz, ensuring smooth visuals whether you're gaming, streaming, or scrolling. The cover display is now slightly larger at 6.3 inches, with a 2376 x 968 resolution and the same adaptive refresh rate as the main screen.

Both displays are brighter than ever, with a peak brightness of 2600 nits, making them easily viewable even in direct sunlight. The cover display is now fully LTPO, which allows for better power efficiency and smoother transitions between refresh rates.

Camera System

The camera system on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 sees some subtle but significant upgrades. The device retains the 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera, and 10MP telephoto camera from the previous model, but with improved sensors and AI-powered features. The ultra-wide camera has been upgraded with a newer 12MP sensor for better image quality.

Samsung has also introduced the ProVisual Engine, which includes features like Instant Slow-Mo, Motion Photos with enhanced HDR, and AI-assisted portrait enhancements. The new Portrait Studio feature allows users to edit their portraits with AI, offering creative options like turning photos into cartoon-like images or watercolor paintings.

Performance and Battery

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset, a special variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 optimized for Samsung devices. This chipset offers a 41% improvement in neural processing, a 25% boost in graphics performance, and a 14% increase in CPU performance compared to the previous generation.

The phone is equipped with 12GB of RAM and comes in three storage options: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The battery capacity remains unchanged at 4,400mAh, but Samsung has improved the thermal management system with a larger vapor chamber, helping to maintain high performance without overheating. The device supports 25W wired charging, 10-15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
